- Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent examination with the minimum required percentage.
- General / Unreserved / General-EWS Candidates: Must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off).
- OBC (NCL) / SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender Candidates: Must have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off).
- Appearing Candidates: Candidates pursuing their Master's degree (or equivalent course), final year students whose result is still awaited, or those whose qualifying examinations have been delayed are eligible to apply.
- Four-Year Bachelor's Degree Candidates: Allowed to appear in a subject from the approved list to pursue a Ph.D., irrespective of the discipline of their 4-year degree.
The examination is conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. The question paper consists of three parts:
- Part A: Common to all subjects. This part tests General Aptitude with emphasis on logical reasoning, graphical analysis, analytical ability, and quantitative comparison.
- Part B: Contains subject-related conventional Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), covering syllabus-defined core topics.
- Part C: Contains higher-value questions designed to test the candidate's analytical and scientific knowledge application.
